Mask Note (the "App") handles your personal information with care and complies with applicable laws.
The App does not require you to sign up and does not run its own server. The notes you make and the photos you add are processed and stored on your device by default. If you choose Google Drive backup or sharing, data is sent outside the device as described in sections 4 and 5 below.
To make a masked note, you can import an image from your device's photo library or take one with the camera. Images you choose or take are processed and stored on the device by default and are not sent outside the device unless you choose to back up or share them yourself. Text recognition runs on Google ML Kit's on-device model, and photos and recognized text are not sent to Google servers during text recognition. Exam names, exam dates, goals, and study completion records are also stored only on the device.
On days when you have notes to review, the App lets you know with a local notification on your device. Notifications are scheduled and delivered only on the device and do not use an external server (push server). You can use the App normally even if you deny the permission.
If you wish, you can sign in with a Google account to back up the notes you made to your own Google Drive or share them by link. If you choose backup, the note bundle, including JPEG photos, note titles, and mask coordinates and labels, is sent to and stored in the Google cloud of your own account, and is not collected on a developer server. Sign-in and backup are entirely optional, and you can use every core feature without them. Drive backups remain even if you delete a note in the App or uninstall the App, and you can delete them yourself in Google Drive.
When you tap "Share note", the App turns the note (photo and mask information) into a file and sends it straight from your device through the app you choose (messenger, email, and so on). This transfer does not pass through a developer server, and the developer does not collect shared notes. A note file you receive is stored on the device only if you choose to import it. Do not share copyrighted material or photos that contain personal information.
The App uses the following third-party services, which may collect the information below.
For users in regulated regions such as the European Economic Area (EEA), the App provides a consent process (Google UMP) before showing ads. You can change your consent in "Ad personalization settings" in the App or in your device settings. On iOS, the App asks on first launch whether to allow tracking (App Tracking Transparency) and uses the advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow it. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and the App works the same either way.
Notes and photos stored on the device are deleted when you delete them in the App or uninstall the App. You must delete Google Drive backups yourself in Drive, and the retention and deletion of copies shared through other apps are managed by the receiving app or recipient.
